Governors Strategic Responsibilities

Our Governing Board is responsible for schools at a strategic level with our Headteacher having delegated responsibilities for the day to day operational management of their school.

Hauxton Primary School has a strong, supportive governing body committed to ensuring that the school provides all its pupils with the best education possible. The governing body provides strategic leadership and accountability. Governors meet at least once a term as a full governing body and then additionally for working groups and governor training. Link governors and governor teams with specific responsibilities also undertake regular visits to the school to meet with staff and children. Our three core responsibilities as Governors are:

  • Setting the school’s vision, ethos and strategic direction, engaging with stakeholders, and ensuring statutory duties are met.
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for: the educational performance of the school and it’s pupils; behaviour and safety; and the performance management of the staff.
  • Ensuring financial solvency and probity with effective management of financial resources.

Our Committee Structure 2024-2025

At Hauxton Primary  School we use the 'Circle Model' of governance. The ‘Circle Model’ has no committees. The task of monitoring specific areas is usually assigned to individuals or pairs (working groups) rather than committees. Each working group has a set of aims and objectives which are specific and robust and encompass all governing board responsibilities.

Governor Pecuniary Interests

It is a statutory requirement for all Governors to record any pecuniary interests held either personally or through a company or relative or partner. An 'interest' in this case, is a situation where a member of the governing body may be affected personally or financially, directly or indirectly, or in some other way by a decision made at a meeting where the governor is present.

The School Governance (Procedures) (England) Regulations state that members of the governing body with any such interest must declare it as soon as possible at any meeting of the full governing body or committee meeting, must not take part in the discussion, must not vote and should withdraw from the meeting. Their withdrawal and return should be minuted.
