Photography Guidance

This guidance applies to any identifiable image of pupils, staff, governors, visitors, or parents captured via cameras, video, CCTV, webcams, or mobile phones.

Definition and Legal Compliance
  • An identifiable image is considered personal data and must be handled in accordance with data protection principles.

  • ‘Processing’ includes recording, using, storing, or sharing any such image.

Parental Photography at Events
  • Parents are welcome to take photos and videos at school events, in line with Cambridgeshire County Council guidance.

  • We ask parents not to share images online if they include children other than their own, to respect everyone's privacy.

School Policy on Images
  • Digital images support learning and are used for educational purposes.

  • Staff may take photos or videos using school-owned equipment. Personal devices may only be used in exceptional cases with prior Headteacher approval.

  • Staff educate pupils on the risks of sharing images, particularly on social media.

  • Pupils must not capture or share images of others without their consent.

Use of Images Online and in Publications
  • Only carefully selected images are used on the school website or in publications, following best practice.

  • Pupils’ full names are never published alongside images on public platforms.

Parental Consent
  • Parents have the right to withhold permission for the use of their child’s image.

  • If you do not consent, please inform the school in writing.

  • Unless informed otherwise, we will assume parental consent for publishing children's images in line with our policy.
